Basketball Teams Go Pink for a Good Cause
October 19, 2018
The Ranger men’s and women’s basketball teams asked fans to wear pink at for a pair of home games at the Candler gym to promote breast cancer awareness month this October.
The idea for the Pink Out games came from Niaga Mitchell-Cole, coordinator for athletics in Student Life. The players sold T-shirts a week before and during the games for fans to wear for the two games. Mitchell-Cole said the SAC community really embraced the idea. Fans showed up in record numbers to watch the women’s basketball team and to show their support of breast cancer awareness.
Mitchell-Cole said T-shirts will be available until the end of the month. The teams will sell the apparel on campus before the next home game, which is on Wednesday, Oct. 31. A portion of the proceeds from the T-shirts will be donated to Susan G Komen San Antonio, a non-profit organization raising money for breast cancer awareness.
